I love this change from Google. Although I had dropped off the "7 pack" for "massage lexington ky" about 8 weeks ago, but had #5 in the organics. I did some SEO over the last month, and then this change happened from Google a couple of days ago. Long story short, I'm #2 now in the new mixed results. I'm very interested to see if Google leaves the results like this, or if they will change it back. Is this a part of Caffeine? Has anyone heard if this is "permanent"? (or as permanent as anything can be with Google)....

So even if a local business was not in the 7 pack before, but ranked well organically, they may find themselves much better off than a week ago. Thanks for the great post!

-Corey
Corey Proffitt Studios Massage - Lexington, KY

Billboards are nearly useless. How many companies or products can you recall from your drive to work today? 0? That's what I thought.

It was recently reported that as many as 70% of twitter accounts are not monitored and have never sent a single tweet.

I'd have to go with the email subscribers on this one.

It's a tough call. I get your point that people who opt-in to an email probably care more about your communications, but having the Twitter followers ensures a more continued dialog. You can't email your email subscribers every day and expect them to remain on your list, but Twitter followers expect to hear from you several times a day. It does increase the chance of getting your business engrained in their memory.

I'll choose definitely email subscribers. I would value email subscribers 10X more than twitter followers.

Jonghee

This is an interesting take on twitter. I am curious to know the future of location-based social networking, particularly among Central Ohioans.

Columbus seems like an easy place to do location-based networking because of our size. If someone is at Polaris and catches a tweet from someone at Stauf's Grandview, then they could be there in 15 minutes.

Foursquare seems like a tool for stalkers. Not sure it would be a great idea to broadcast your whereabouts, as well as a description of what you look like.

Thieves have been using status updates on FaceBook & Twitter to their advantage. While it might be a good thing for businesses to have their customers Tweet their location, what's in it for the customers?

Great opportunity for incentive programs. In Columbus, Ohio, Rocky VanBrimmer & Skyline Chili do this with their Skyline Connoisseurs Club where attendees get a free Coney Dog with any purchase.
